At around 11 p.m. on the 31st of august 1944, Mrs. Bert Kearney woke in her bedroom in Mattoon, Illinois. She was surprised to find that her room was suffused with a strange smelling fragrance. She first thought that the fragrance was the flowers on her window, but the odor grew stronger and she felt a paralysis on the lower parts of her body. She screamed with fright. After about two hours of police shirting the area (without success) her husband came home to meet a shadowy figure outside their bedroom widow! As soon as Mr. Kearney saw it he chased it down the road but gave up because he ran out of breath, but he could still see the figure running at the same extremely fast pace all the way down the road.
